Sisters and Brothers,
In the summer of 2020, Florida - Labor Relations, engaged the Union with the idea of exchanging a floating holiday for MLK day. The Duke Energy non-bargaining unit employees were not given an option…they gave up a floating holiday in exchange for MLK Day. The Union, however, had no interest in exchanging holidays for 1500 Bargaining Unit employees mid-term. Make no mistake, the Union did not reject this idea because we undervalue the importance of MLK day, to the contrary, we have brought the MLK Day holiday proposal to several negotiations. We rejected the idea because it would have taken away a floating holiday from every Bargaining Unit employee and we were assured that anyone wanting to use their floater on MLK day would be able to do so.
Please understand, the Company can not unilaterally make changes to negotiated items without first contacting and negotiating with the Union and they did not. They contacted the Union and we chose to keep what we have at this time.
Thank you and please continue working safely.
Fraternally Yours,
Phil
